For as long as I can remember, I have constantly searched for new challenges and goals to achieve personal growth and to improve myself both physically and mentally. This was a component of my life that I have always held as a priority.

I remember I was only 15 years old when I lifted my first set of dumbbells. I weight trained regularly with the purpose of improving my performance in all sports at all levels. I’ve been involved in numerous sports and activities, from basketball, kickboxing, and dance, to ultimate Frisbee and snowboarding. The thought of competing in fitness had never even crossed my mind.

My mother who was an athlete raised me in a single parent home. Naturally, I developed a competitive spirit from a young age. My mother was an international competitive swimmer for England and played field hockey competing in the Commonwealth and Pan Am Games as examples.

Also, my late father was an endurance athlete participating in marathons and triathlons. I feel that being surrounded by active individuals has definitely made me more appreciative of being active. During my high school years we moved around a lot. I was very active in sports including basketball and volleyball. I received awards such as Athlete of the Year and Most Improved Athlete to mention a few.

After having several reconstructive surgeries on my left knee, in a span of 3 years, there wasn’t a sport I was able to do. I was a competitive gymnast and a long-distance runner for most of my life. Having a serious knee injury put my life on hold.

Through physiotherapy, I started to regain some physical activity. I learned how to walk again. This would lead to bigger things. Weight. Over the 3 years, of not being able to do anything, I ballooned to 135 pounds. My normal weight was previously 115 pounds.
